The Making Process
In the pictures below, you can see the stages involved in the making process. The majority of pieces are thrown on my pottery wheel. Once formed, they are removed from the wheel on batts and left to dry overnight.
You can see below that I've pulled the handles for the mugs I'm making. The cylinders of the mugs are now waiting to be trimmed and have the handles attached.
After trimming each piece, attaching handles, sponging and smoothing, the pieces now go into the kiln for their first fire.
Once through their first firing, the pieces are sanded and glazed. I wait a few more days until the glaze is thoroughly dry, another quick rub down and the pieces go back into the kiln for their final fire. This is the most exciting part, glazes can be pretty unpredictable!
